So. Good. Get this book if you just started. I just bought an 8-harness jack loom and this, my friends, has been a comprehensive and yet totally understandable lifesaver!

This book is directed towards those who want to learn how to use a 4 harness table loom or a floor loom. The author writes very clear instructions in a lesson format. This can be difficult for some people to understand. The book has a large amount of easy to understand illustrations as well as good black and white photos. I like the fact that the book covers many advanced skills like how to weave different types of twills, lace, using multiple wefts, etc. The drafting and pattern sections are really good. Good weaving requires that a weaver understand pattern reading and this book covers this aspect really well. All in all this is a good book for an "advanced beginner". A person who has never weaved before may have a problem in understanding the process without reading the chapters a gazillion times.

This book saved me a lot of time and money. I had YouTube pages marked, searched for books and websites to help me understand 4 harness weaving, warping, everything to develop a clear understanding of every part of weaving on my loom so that I could solve any 'opportunities for learning' that might arise. I was not able to find everything in one place, until this book.She takes you very clearly through the parts of the loom, using a warping board, warping front to back, back to front, different tie ups, tabby, twill, overshot, summer, winter, etc. She does much of this in the form of lessons.This book has built my knowledge and my confidence. This is a must have for anyone using a floor loom.

I will need to grow into this book...I only have table looom and skills with single heddle. But this book seams easy to read and understand. Nice explanation of complex topics and great series of references to pattern for floor looms. I can't wait to be good enough with my hobby to really use this book.

I purchased a paperback version of the "Learning to Weave" by Debbie Redding and Deborah Chandler. This is an economical way to buy this classic reference. The spine is a spiral so it is easy to keep the book opened to any page you want.The book is extremely detailed, from position of the hands when you dress the dress to numerous illustrations on various topics. I am attaching a photo of the page addressing the topic of warping the yarn. The amount of fine details and explanations is better than in any other book I read. I had high expectations based on everything I heard about this book and it totally lived up to my expectations.This book helped solve some beginner problems I had earlier. It made it easier and faster to dress the loom. And my weaving edges are looking better with floating selvedges, a technique I learned in this book! The chapter on troubleshooting and various options to fix mistakes is very helpful. This book also has a large section on various weaving patterns.I currently thinking about upgrading my first loom to a bigger one. I was pleased to find a chapter about buying the right loom for you. It has several useful considerations that I will keep in mind.I am sure I will be coming back to this book again and again. I join the chorus saying that this book extremely helpful if you are just learning to weave. It will curb your learning curve!Ali Julia Review

I purchased this book for about seven years at the recommendation of a good friend. Well, I finally took the plunge and got my loom. I was able to warp, dress my loom and weave my first project with her excellent instruction!!! She goes through all the terms (really a new language), the parts of the loom (another new language) clearly and precisely. Easy reading, along with assignments.

I bought this book a while ago when I was interested in learning to weave. I had bought a rigid heddle loom and had never woven anything before. The book was not very helpful for me on that loom, but I found a lot of the information in it to be very helpful. I had to read it over a few times, and some of the concepts did not click until I had actually gone to take lessons in weaving on a multi-shaft loom, but overall I think this book is a good basic book for those who have interest in weaving and want to learn some basics without a class.

The book is a bit dated. Pictures are in black and white and most are drawings of tools and equipment. Very 1980's not a learning style that I enjoy. I want to just learn there are to many words in between instruction. I have been going through the book and highlighting the stiff that matters so I don't have to read all the "blah blah" starting the first project now. I don't like the "blah blah" so much because it gets in the way of "how to." Is this the best beginner book out there?

This looks like a beautiful book for weaving with a four-shaft loom. Unfortunately I was looking for a book to get me started with a rigid heddle loom. I didn't pick up in the book description that rigid heddle looms were so different than a four shaft loom, so I ordered the book based upon the description and reviews as working for beginners. At this stage of my weaving education, this book is useless to me. I wish I had understood it was for weaving with a four shaft loom, not a rigid heddle loom.

I think the book is very well researched, written, and laid out, I'm not quite sure why I expected differently, perhaps because of the stone circle on the front, but I thought it might be more geared to the ancient and pagan spiritual sites. Instead, while it includes prominent ones, a lot of ink is given to relating stories of various Christian saints and other church leaders, and the sites associated with them.

This is more than a simple traveler's guide book. It provides the detailed history, significance and practices surrounding the sacred sites of Britain, including many lesser-known sites. The book gives the reader a foundation necessary for truly understanding and experiencing the sacred sites. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to visit Britain's sacred sites and come away with more than a snap-shot view.

I just like these kind of books. I just booked a trip to Scotland so I will be referring to this book a lot. I can't wait to get to Scotland and actually see some of these places I've been reading about.

The book is phenomenal and I cannot wait to put it to good use on my next trip. It covers all sacred sites from the mound graves to Chinese temples. This book is written with a great deal of historical research and care, I love that Palmer does this without rendering the book unreadable. The b&b's, hostels, and other accommodations while cost-conscious are lovely and inviting. Again, I am totally in love with this travel guide.

Very informative, well written, and inspiring. I now have a whole new list of places I want to visit!

The Book of Revelation has been misunderstood by many people, especially Fundamentalists, for a long time. Many people read Revelation and come away with bizarre predictions for things to come. The late Dr. Metzger's book gives the reader an excellent verse by verse view on what Revelation actually means by placing the writing in a religious, political and social context. It's impossible to understand any writing without understanding the context. Dr. Metzger was one of the great New Testament scholars of the 20th Century. His book is thorough, but not so academic that lay people will have a hard time following it. At the heart, Revelation gives great insights into 1st Century Christianity and the problems early Christians bravely faced. It is not a text intended to predict coming human events.

If you have ever wanted to study the book of Revelations, this book is a must have companion. It is theologically sound, seeking to convey that which the original author intended. It is historically accurate. It seems that many people try to interpret the book in a historical vacuum, totally ignoring what was going on in the world and the church at that time.

I just like his approach, even though I don't agree entirely with everything. I rarely agree with any author 100% in this particular subject but I always learn something.

Understanding the book of Revelation is not an easy task, but this book does an adequate job of presenting the author's views and theories on Revelation in an easy to understand and non-academic way. Non-academic is probably a big key here. If you are looking for a definitive commentary on the book of Revelation, this is definitely not it. But what it does do it does fairly well. There will undoubtedly be things in this book the reader disagrees with, and I found myself disagreeing with a lot, but I sometimes find that to be a good thing and makes me think about a subject.The book is inexpensive and is worthwhile to use as a Bible Study or in a group format.

This is a good study book to go along with reading Revelations in the Bible. It was used as part of my Sunday Bible Study class. It reads very well, and the author is exceptionally good at explaining this interesting part of the Bible. I recommend it to anyone who would like to better understand Revelations.

This is the best and easiest to understand explanation of the Book of Revelation I have read. What impresses me is that Metzger admits that some of the symbolism could be viewed different ways. He only suggests how to view it and never says it must be understood his way. (Most Protestant and just about all Baptist preachers want you to believe their interpretation is the right way!)

I grew up in a fundamentalist church, but am now Episcopalian. This book was used in a class at my church. It's given me new, very sensible, ways to understand much of the language and imagery in the Book of Revelation - as well as a renewed appreciation for that book. It helps to make the book's liberating, encouraging message accessible to 21st-century Christians.

I was very excited when I first saw this book as I have enjoyed reading several of Martha's articles on CIO.com. Here is my first take on this book - this book is just a mish mash of various CIO thoughts. Its not very well organized or engaging and I had no desire to read the book. I would start with reading the first page of a chapter and then jump to next chapter until I didnt find any value in reading the book. The chapter topics are all great but content not so well organized. I am hoping to come back to the book with an empty mind at another time as I dont want to miss any insights between the lines. I will update my review later if I find any such valuable insights.

Who is accountable for IT in a modern business? What role does IT play? Are boundaries still mixed and thus opportunities being lost? All this and more is considered in this interesting book that looks at the role IT leadership can and should have in a company and what changes IT leaders may need to do to remain relevant in this brave new world.It can sound a dry and esoteric subject to an outsider, but the author has expertly weaved together a host of disciplines, experiences, research and opinion together to make a fascinating, essential book. This is a book that does generate much thought! IT is no longer something confined to the “IT department”, the world and his dog can have an opinion about IT and how to make it better. Add in the “new media” disciplines such as web design and ecommerce and throw in some industrial automation for good measure and soon there are lot of people trying to stir the IT stew. Larger companies, in particular, still need strategic guidance and leadership for their IT, but the nominal IT head might not be getting the visibility and internal respect that they need and deserve.So this book may help on many levels. It can let the CIO or similar leader evolve their organisation to utilise and integrate all technology within the company and it may let other managers see how they do not need to fear losing part of their domain by cooperating with the IT department. As IT is more and more an integral part of a company’s operational DNA, it is essential that all areas can function efficiently, accurately and support each other.The author is direct.
