Needed something new for my 13 year old son to do this summer so bought this book and the kit. My son is still working through the experiments but so far so good. The book is clearly written, easy to understand, and follow along. The illustrations are really clear and super helpful. I have my son read and then do an experiment while I'm at work, then show me how it works when I get home and explain why. Once he's done with this book and kit, well get the author's next book which is more advanced. Definitely recommend.

About the Author

Galina Tachieva is a partner and director of town planning at the central office of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, in Miami, Florida. She is originally from Bulgaria, and received a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Sofia and a master’s in urban design from the University of Miami, Florida. Galina submitted a “Sprawl Repair Kit,” which contains some of the ideas and drawings from her book, to the 2009 Re-Burbia competition sponsored by the blog Inhabitat and DWELL magazine, where it won the People’s Choice Award.

The book is very well organized and gorgeously illustrated. The step by step technique is repeated throughout different conditions and sizes of urban repair with diagrams, zoom-in views, and examples. It is like a recipe with instruction from how to cook for two to how to handle catering for hundreds and thousands. One missing component is vertical height. The book emphasizes on creating density from two dimensional planning point of view without adequately addressing the role of building height, scale, and proportion.

This book is a very helpful resource, but a close examination of many of its before-after visuals (such as on page 115)reveals that as many as a half-dozen parking garages appear in the after scenarios, enabling the high densities to be achieved, with resultant walkability. My only criticism of the book is that so many examples are dependent on multi-story parking garage provision, which is way beyond the means of many communities. Readers should be aware of this, and endeavor to create designs that would work with surface parking, the only feasible alternative in many locales. Surface parking is shown in one example on page 125, but the vast majority of examples involve parking structures.

This is an excellent book on repairing sprawl, for the architect, planner or developer as well as for a lay person. It is well written and easy enough for a lay person to understand and explains itself very well and yet it is an excellent resource for anyone in the field. It is equally useful for planning new communities or fixing old ones. The diagrams in the book are easy to understand, very informational and complement the text. This is definitely a must for anyone in the business.I cannot recommend it enough!

Great book, but if you have the option, get the hard copy instead of the Kindle version. The illustrations aren't nearly as legible on screen as on paper.

I originally started reading the previous version on e-book and as with most e-books, I tend to forget about them before I finish and or end up ordering the actual book version. I was excited when the new edition came out and preordered it. I’m about halfway through and I have so many notes and underlines already. Part of me feels like I don’t have many money blocks but I’m digging deep and one theme keeps resurfacing and that is having always felt like a financial burden to my family, aka I feel guilty when anyone has to do or pay for anything for me which when you’re a child that’s pretty much the way it goes. The theme of my life became to do and take care of everything myself so that I don’t burden anyone. Fast forward to starting a retail business this year and I can feel where I have guilt with pricing and accept money from people. I may be happy when they spend but underneath I feel guilty and unworthy. Oh boy, this is going to be where I need to forgive and let go. Then we’ll see what else surfaces! I’ve been redesigning my life do a few years now and releasing some old thinking habits. I quit my “real job”, started a business, hired a cleaning lady, I order from Blue Apron, and I ask my husband to do more than he’s used to doing. I look forward to continuing to climb the ladder of change to reach my dreams, goals and my own personal vision of success and wealth. This book definitely has some of the basics, however, Denise does a great job at breaking down how to use some of this stuff in a different way and more importantly, how to make it work in your daily life, not just a one and done kind of thing.A huge focus of this book focuses on forgiveness and clearing money blocks from our past. I like the way this book was written and I appreciate the straight fowardness of it.

Lots of gems in this book. I found it particularly helpful because I’ve been involved in campaigning for various social justice issues for many years, and reconciling being okay with making money while seeing so many injustices to people, animals and planet can be very difficult. I decided to read the book straight through before doing any of the exercises, but even as I was reading I was able to easily pinpoint many of my money blocks. I’m about to start doing the exercises now. This is a book that I’m sure I will be coming back to again and again. It’s written in an easy, accessible and fun way, which is important for a money book, because it means it’s not boring! Thank you Denise for sharing your wisdom with practical strategies.

I love Denise's style and down to earth message. I've had so many break through's after reading her first book and then this book the minute the new edition was released a few weeks ago! I'm now basically "addicted" to how she's managed to crack the code and make a fortune for herself (& helping others do it, too) by chunking this 'manifestation' thing down to tiny practical chunks that any of us can follow!

I guess you can call me a man-beeoch. Despite the fact that this book is geared towards women, the content interested me because I am trying to manifest greater income in my life. This was the highest rated book about attracting money specifically, so I decided to take a chance and read it.It's definitely written specifically for women; however, there was still enough great content here that I found it extremely helpful for my own purposes. I skimmed through parts of it that simply didn't apply to me based on my gender. I think women will certainly get a lot out of this book, but even men could benefit from much of it.If you want to manifest money in your life, this is definitely the book I would start with.

I really loved this book. It is very deep, despite what you’d think about looking at the title, the writing style that is very simple and straight, and the aim of this book. As Denise says at the end, this is a book that helps you to become spiritually rich and also money rich. The most valuable lesson from his book in my opinion is that living a wealthy live is linked to our capacity to forgive. Very practical and a lot of fun.

I love Denise's approach on the Law of Attraction. She teaches in a very practical way that's easy to understand and implement without the woo-woo feeling that most Law of Attraction gurus leave you with. I had a lot of aha moments while reading this book. If you're looking for a book about the law of attraction but not sure how to apply it in real life beyond the mediations, affirmations, and positive thinking this is the book for you.

But I wanted to read what a bestselling author had to say about his craft, as most of the 'How To' books out there are by nobody you've ever heard of. He had me immediately hooked.As a writer, this book is a must-buy. Not only do you hear about everything Stephen King struggled through to get his book published, but he also gives you tips and tricks that he's learned along the way. Don't want to write an outline? Don't. Don't want to write about your character's grandfather's past? Don't bother. It's OKAY!Instead of bogging down the wannabe writer with 'surefire' methods, he discusses things most get hung up on, like dialogue, description, grammar, building characters, linking ideas, etc. He doesn't tell you that you MUST do it this particular way. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and took my time reading it. I could "hear" Mr. King's "voice" in my head as I read this on my iPad Kindle app. I felt like I was reading something from a friend---as if he had written a personal letter to me--- to give me an understanding of what he went through to become the person he is today. I think that his directives about the "how-to's" and "don't do's" were very practical. I breathed a sigh of relief when I got the feeling that writing classes and clubs are kind of a waste of time. Just write, is what I think he was telling me, I mean, his audience. I will probably read it again. What I got from his personal, real-life-lessons is this: Read a lot. Read good stuff. Write all the time. Find a place and write. Don't share your stuff unless you share it with someone you can trust. Go with your gut. Write all the time (I said that already because he said it or inferred it frequently). Don't use the same adjective over and over. Stick to the point. Don't over-do it on the descriptions. Let your audience see the movie you see in your head, because if you write it well, they will. I am glad this wasn't a "point by point HOW TO WRITE a story or a book" book, because really, writing isn't something you can do easily from a bulleted list. Writing is something you do from your heart, and you keep doing it until it's right and good. And then when that person you trust reads your stuff and offers some criticism, you can take it for what it's worth and use it or not.

I purchased this book because the description stated that it contained all 4 books including Rage. What a disappointment to receive the book and open it to find that it includes only 3 of the 4 books... no Rage! If you are looking to complete your stephen king collection, avoid this copy! Incredibly frustrated buyer!

Some books I rate with 5 stars just because of my pleasure in the story. These aren't always well-written or creative, or something someone else would like. Then there are those books that are so well-crafted, not just with character development or storytelling but in the writing itself. This is one of those books. I've always given Stephen King credit as the "king of the flashback" and here he gives us some of what he does best, but he also shows again his ability to get inside the head of the character in the present. From making up lyrics to songs sung by a fictional boy band and the brand names of fictional ice cream treats, to details of a Midwestern city that make those of us living in Midwestern cities think ours is the one in the story. I wondered in the beginning of the book if King was making a game in paying homage to himself with hints he dropped to reference some of his previous best sellers, but he played this game for just a short while. There are plenty of other pop-culture references in the minds of the various characters that do well to establish their ages and backgrounds.As the story unwinds after the climactic events, my emotions surprised me. I've cried while reading books before, but not while reading the words of a bureaucratic proclamation!

The main reason I bought this book was that the description said that it included the story "Rage". I was dying to read that, and the other three stories would be a bonus. Well, what a major disappointment to receive the book and find that "Rage" is not included. There are three stories, not four, and I will be returning this book due to false advertising. Very, very disappointed.

I scored very competitively on boards, thought I would share my thoughts on this book.I do love this book. If anyone has gone through UWorld, the explanation quality of this book is on similar caliber. If you read first aid, you will be scratching your head asking "why" or "how" does this disease process happen? This book goes into explaining a lot of the why's. It also has phenomenal illustrations, taken from medical textbooks such as Robbins/Costanzo's Physiology. I really appreciated how the authors went through major textbooks and borrowed tons of illustrations.Granted, while they "teach" the disease, they are almost forced to provide less breadth overall. Some disease processes are missing entirely or high yield facts are not mentioned. That is why this book will never be a First Aid replacement, and really I don't think that should be the purpose of this book. This book should be used along side First Aid. I annotated important explanation points into my First Aid book, and near my exam just paged through the beautiful pages/images. Definitely got a question right on my exam that I would have missed if I only used First Aid.The main weak point of this book is pharmacology. There simply is not enough info in the pharm sections, or drugs are missing entirely. First Aid does this section relatively well.I don't know where this book fits in the overall plethora of board prep material. It is a gem for people who enjoy explanations, the pictures are beautiful, and the pages are thick (not flimsy like First Aid). I would never say Crush is necessary to do well on boards (I would say First Aid is), but for people who do not appreciate the shotgun blast of high yield facts that is First Aid, they might find Crush easier to digest.

This book is very similar to First Aid with a few exceptions. I've noticed it doesn't go as in depth, and doesn't have as many pathology pictures to show the diseases discussed. That is okay though, since Pathoma covers all the path we need to know with excellent descriptions. That being said, Crush is not simply the bulleted "high yield" points that FA goes over, it goes in depth explaining the reasons behind everything. I own both FA and Crush, and generally read Crush in the beginning of my courses, and then read FA afterwards to fill in the extra information that Crush didn't give me, all while using the foundation Crush did give me. The mnemonics are the same or better in Crush than in FA.I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to do well on Step, and use it together with FA to do well. I would never tell someone to not read FA. It is the bible of step, but Crush is very well written and will be a good addition to your core curriculum/ STEP 1 studying.

I ordered this because I saw comments about it on the Reddit/medschool subverted and I am really happy with it. I know it is not a typical book that everyone knows about, but I decided to give it a chance when First Aid was not quite enough for me (I am just starting MS2, so there was not enough context in First Aid). This is NOT a review book so much as it is a book for learning for the first time. I have been using it side by side in my classes as a supplement to my learning.Overall, I am super impressed with the quality of info, and haven't seen anything about it on here, wish I had found it earlier in my medical education.For example, it never made sense to me why AFP would be elevated in hepatocellular carcinoma, here is the explanation from the "Crush" book: "Of note, AFP acts as the fetal form of albumin. Its level is elevated in primary HCC and metastatic disease to the liver and in yolk sac tumors. In neural tube defects, the AFP level is also elevated in the mother’s blood because the fetal skin is not fully intact, and AFP leaks into the mother’s circulation. In Down syndrome, the levels are decreased, presumably because the size of the fetus and yolk sac are decreased." (So messed up liver function, less albumin production, so body starts making fetal version of albumin = AFP. BAM!)Here is another example: you know that formula for cardiac output that is rate of O2 consumption / art. O2 - venous O2? It's never made sense to me. "Crush" explanation: "Imagine with a low cardiac output, the blood is moving more slowly through the tissues, giving them more time to extract oxygen, leading to a large arterial-venous oxygen content difference (large denominator). Conversely, with a high cardiac output, so much oxygenated blood is being circulated through the tissues that the tissues do not need to extract all the oxygen from the blood each time it passes through."If anyone has questions, feel free to ask me. I am really happy that I bought this book and I have used it continuously for months.

This book is EXCELLENT! If you are they type of person that needs a little more meat than what First Aid offers because you need to understand/brush up on the why/how....then this is the book for you! Personally, I kind of hate First Aid. I learn and remember better with integrations and a thorough understanding of pathophysiology. This book explains things well, gives examples, has good mnemonics, and integrates various concepts when discussing physiology to help you remember and understand. While it has more text than First Aid, it is easy to read and is more like someone casually explaining concepts to you. Additionally, it does all of this without being too long or burdensome to read. More students should know about this! If you don't like all the gaps in First Aid, try this one out. Additionally, it is useful throughout the first two years of medical school for reading during classes as well as during board studying.

The boys were both able to read and get something out of the book to use right away. If, like me, we are starting and want to learn more about all the things you can do with a raspberry pi, this is the perfect book for you. This book helped me to undeestand and work with an raspberry pi.

Honestly, good on this person for trying, but I really can't endorse this book. The style is poor, it's full of errors, and it doesn't really do what it sets out to. I would recommend buying a more professional self help book, this was a waste of money.
