This book exceeded my expectations. Being an October 2013 Disney bride, it was full of amazing insight and guidance for planning. Although the pricing has changed a little bit since this book was printed, the rest of the information was spot on. In working with Disney Fairy Tale Weddings (DFTW), sometimes there is a lag between communication. With this book, you can get an idea of what questions to ask and do some of the research on your own. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE THINKING OF/PLANNING A DISNEY WEDDING!!!

So far I'm not impressed. Although this book is useful and provides some ideas and insight into Disney weddings, it is not as useful as I had hoped. Most of this information can be found for free by going to Disney's wedding web site and searching the internet. To top it off, most of the information on Disney wedding packages is outdated and therefore not correct and not useable for planning a detailed wedding.

This book is a must have for anyone planning a Disney Wedding! Great tips and pointers from someone who has actually been there and planned it all!

I bought this three years ago and it has shaped my investing greatly. My goal in investing is always to buy low and sell high. This book helps me understand how to do the first half--buying low. I now buy after crashes.Interestingly, something somewhere is always crashing. And I have also used Kindleberger to size up what are obvious manias (easy one: there are now more construction cranes in Toronto than any other city in North America). Places where I have bought after crashes are Greek shipping companies in January 2013 (42% gain in 12 months even including a stock that went from $70/share to $0.11/share) and Indian small caps in August of 2013 (up ~30% gain in 5 months), the US housing market in 2012, and a small bank whose shares went from $300, to $1, to $11 (counting reverse splits).I have proven that you can still lose money even buying after a big fall (US Treasurys)--so I am not touting Kindleberger as a panacea. it is far from clear how to get the timing right during or after a crash. But this book did a great job illuminating the crazy ways people can cause a good or a stock to part from reality both on its way up and on its way down. Using it, I succeed more often than I fail. And I succeed more often than if I had not read it.I would place this book on the short list, with Taleb's, Lefevre's, and Malkiel's work if you invest for yourself.

This book was informative and gives a detailed history of financial crises going back to the 17th century. I would say that an understanding of the principles of macroeconomics will make this book a more digestible read as it refers to economic frameworks. Seemed a little long-winded at times and the book didn't seem to have the best chapter-to-chapter transitions.I would concur that this is a book that should be referred to every few years. For example, speculative investing & expansion of credit gave way to the Housing Bubble; these topics are covered extensively in the book (albeit written before the pop of the Housing Bubble). It will be interesting to come back to this book as the next couple of economic cycles play out given our nations leverage levels and the implications of expansionary monetary policy (Kindleberger highlighted that Debt/GDP levels should be healthily around <60-70%).

Buy it. Study it. This book will build your frame of reference with regard to economic history, which is of paramount necessity should you be making any investment decisions. I bough this sixth edition right after it came out and then read a but and then put it back on my shelf for some reason. I though when I bought it would be more a sequential history and not a larger arc looking at crashes and their causes, but I was rewarded coming back to it. I'm just glad that we have the problem of crashes solved after 2008 and there's no worry or possibility of another one (unless crashes are inherent in the economic system, and as explored here even more likely in the current incarnation of capitalism).

This book has some good concepts and discussion, but it is poorly organized, often lacking in logical coherency. The book seems to jump around among various topics and stories, and is hard to follow at times. For example, a heading is often followed by a short discussion of subject matter related to the heading, but then devolves into various tangents. It is almost as if the author wrote the book in a stream of consciousness without much effort in organizing the material being discussed. This is a shame due to the importance of the subject matter being covered. IMO this book could be rewritten to produce a much better product.

Marcus' "A History of Ethiopia" is a great overview of Ethiopia's history. It is focused more on the modern era, especially the 20th century. It does get confusing occasionally while reading due to some Ethiopians have very similar names to others, as well as Marcus' use of the nobility's titles, which can add to the confusion. Overall I loved the book, and would highly recommend it to those wanting an introduction and overview of Ethiopian history. I also recommend Marcus' other books, especially his biography of Haile Selassie.

This is a thorough and excellent history although I do wish it had spent more time on the early Golden age rather than skipping through the good times. The first part of the book, consisting of a single long chapter, reviews this background material while introducing computationally-intensive exploratory data analysis and computational inference. The six chapters in the second part of the book are on statistical computing. This part describes arithmetic in digital computers and how the nature of digital computations affects algorithms used in statistical methods. Building on the first chapters on numerical computations and algorithm design, the following chapters cover the main areas of statistical numerical analysis, that is, approximation of functions, numerical quadrature, numerical linear algebra, solution of nonlinear equations, optimization, and random number generation. The third and fourth parts of the book cover methods of computational statistics, including Monte Carlo methods, randomization and cross validation, the bootstrap, probability density estimation, and statistical learning. The book includes a large number of exercises with some solutions provided in an appendix. James E. Gentle is University Professor of Computational Statistics at George Mason University. When dealing with designers and cars, one would expect more pictures ... but, that some times requires licensing fees to who owns the pictures and such, adds expense. Still, us car guys, we want to see our kinetic art. That said, is a good read. Learn a bit about his early days, who influenced him, how some luck helped. If you are a history buff and not a car guy, you will enjoy the writing. If you are a car guy and not a history buff, still worth a read. Me, I am both. I have been lucky enough to have met many of my childhood and adult heros and, been able to sit one on one and visit with many and, become friends with some. Reading books, written, like this one, make me feel, that I wish I had been able to meet and talk with Harly Earl, one on one, not just about what made him famous but, about things friends talk about. Maybe, like my tea with more sugar, no mustard on my burger. Watch him work and yet, not be talking about work.

What a good book! He really did his research! I'm just not sure why in the world he, or the publisher didn't invest in more images of the fantastic cars he was describing. His writing was great in trying desperately to describe the cars, and features he wrote of, but you really need to "SEE" the stuff! There is another great book on Harley Earl: Harley Earl by Stephen Bayley. An older study, but includes many more pictures. These two books should be read consecutively if you want a real thorough feel of this great, and interesting subject.Mr. Knoedelseder did a fantastic job of describing the evolution of style in cars; a great history of the American industry; and many, almost sub-biographies, of the other stars of Detroit. But why, why so much work, and so few pictures??? Great job Bill! I look forward to reading some of your other efforts. Thanks so much for your research! Dave (in Colorado)

Captivating from page one. The author chronicles the improbable rise of Harley Earl from humble beginnings through the birth of the movie culture in Hollywood to the pinnacle of success in America's biggest company. There are hundreds of stories about the temperamental Earl and his marketing genius. This volume sorts them out in an engaging way.

Harley Earl grew to be a legend within General Motors as the head of the styling department. He ruled his designers whimsically and ruthlessly -- even though he himself couldn't draw! But he had his finger on the pulse of the American car-buying public and he gave them what they wanted, including iconic fins on the Cadillac. Thus the title of the book.It is very well written and illustrated with black and white photos. It's a picture of a bygone era and the men and women who peopled it.

An interesting time and astounding group of people creating what we as consumers bought

I'm a car guy, and thought I knew a lot about Harley Earl. "Fins" was a "reset" on what I thought I knew, rich with detail about Earl's family history, upbringing and start in the industry before GM. This is an engaging read that will keep the attention of anyone who enjoys history, but particularly those who love cars, for whom its a "must read".

One of the best "auto" books written. Very well written and easy to follow. Harley Earl was a character bigger than life and made his name in "Fins".

As exciting as Harley Earl's designs were, I was hoping this book would have more pictures that showed his influence.

I held off on buying this book. I wasn't sure I needed it. After all, the core rulebook has rules for generating NPCs and there are plenty of generic characters described in the other books. But after creating a spreadsheet that automatically calculated attribute values and their related statistics, skills, feats, talents, etc., I came to one conclusion: this is a lot of work. Especially without the spreadsheet, I'd be spending hours getting an NPC just right and looking up values, calculating other ones. So I thought, "why not just buy a book loaded with NPCs other people have spent the time fleshing out and assigning CL values to?" Great idea! That's what the book is: a bunch of generic characters (and a few unique ones), creatures, and droids that you can easily drop into an adventure and throw at players. Plus, their CL values are already calculated, which is not as easy as it sounds. There's a little extra information on designing encounters, but it's nothing crucial. Anyway, if you already have the core rulebook, Starships of the Galaxy, and Scum and Villainy, you should just pay for this book and have the four core books on the shelf - it's worth it.

This is my first monster book and I was excited to look through it getting ready to start playing some Star Wars...Content:I would have frankly liked to have seen more generic creatures and/or characters. I agree with other reviews that grouping species together rather than putting them throughout the book in harder to find locals would have been nice. That said there is very useful information and at least some good visual referencesQuality:The book feels nice and looks pretty but the pages feel a little thin and "feel" tear-easy to me. Also, the ink in my copy was a little off I guess and while there was no cross inking on the pages, there was a residue that I wiped off with slight smears and page sticking I had to be careful of on my first go-through.

I saw this book and had to have it. For I am GM who constantly does things on the fly, and doesnt preplan adventures. Face it, you have no idea where the group is going to go, and I hate "railroading" them. This book is perfect if you need some quick stats or just some random encounters. A lot of Useful info in this book. Only bad thing is that it is very small in pages, and I do not think its worth its full price, even at the discounted prepaid price I got. This book is maybe a 14.99 - 19.99 type book.EDIT: (Dec 2008)Now that I have used this book more since I first purchased it, I am quite happy I did, this is a great tool for GM's. Its full of great ideas for mini-adventures as well as enough to pre-plan a full blown out campaign. If I could re-rate this, I would give it 4 stars. Still, I wish it was bigger as in more pages, thus I can't give it 5 stars.

What "Threats of the Galaxy" provides is tons of character types and a few creatures and droids for your characters to beat up and dispose of. You could think of this as the Monster Manual for the Star Wars universe. GMs will find this to be very useful for their campaigns. However, there isn't much help for scaling the levels of NPCs or creatures, so you'll still have to bit of work. Also, there isn't much support for creating your own characters or creatures. You'll have to hunt and peck for types of characters that will be able to match the levels of the characters in your campaign. It's a bit of inconvenience, but the characters that are in this book are very solid.

This is basically a Monster Manual for Saga, split into NPCs, creatures, and droids. As a miscellany of opponents, it does a good job: you'll find plenty of people and beasties to throw against your PCs. There's some neat new rules and PC alien and droid options, too.The organization could have been better. For instance, instead of slipping in the option to play Miralukas under Jerec the fallen Jedi's entry or playing a Bith under the Black Sun Vigo entries, why not put the new race options in one place at the end? The same goes for new equipment, skills, and feats.But the entries themselves are quite good. In addition to stat blocks, you get commentary on what role the character, beast, or droid can play in an adventure. A number of entries are statted out at different Challenge Levels, too, and in the case of NPCs, include advice on what sort of lower CL minions such an NPC would tend to have.Overall, this is a useful book; perhaps not a must-have at $35, but for Amazon's much lower price, I'm satisfied.

I'll start with the positives. The book is nicely put together for the most part, and of good quality. It has a nice selection of characters from the various books, games and movies--except for the ones that will be included in other books coming out in the next few months, such as a KOTOR guide and a New Jedi Order supplement.The thing that I don't like about this book--it should have been included elsewhere. They "slimmed down" the rules in this iteration of the game, but they overslimmed. So instead of having all of these characters in the core book like they did in the past, they pulled them out and charged me for yet another book. And what is this desire to continue printing the books in this odd size? 160 pages really means about 120 when you factor in the smaller size of the pages.Many of the characters don't have any pictures or drawings at all, and as I said, they really rob you by leaving out a bunch of the major players, only to put them into other books and charge you AGAIN over the next few months. They really could have and should have done a better job with this, but the material that you get is reasonably good, but it is certainly priced to high.

The book you must have if you want to kill those pesky jedi explorers in the most extravagant ways possible.

This book has been out 11 years and now it's time for a new revised edition.Still, the book has timeless sales advice in terms of cultivating positive mental attitude, knowing your product inside and out and serving your customers in a way where you can match your products and services to what they need and desire.People sell different things to different people or organization and what specifically may work fabulously with one customer may not necessarily work with another, so Jeffrey appropriately suggests at the beginning of this book to use what is appropriate for your particular sales situation.Some tips and suggestions in this book may fit your circumstance, some won't, but since there are plenty of tips and suggestions, you can definitely find some that can help you to improve your sales.Jeffrey begins by sharing very good suggestions for cultivating your mental attitude. He emphasizes the need to asking good sales questions. My one criticism would be that these rules tend to be repeated across the chapters. I like to highlight and take notes in books, therefore the duplication became quite frustrating. With that being said, depending on the reader this could be a good thing for reinforcement of the theory.It is certainly a book anyone can read, including an experienced sales person, as there are plenty of points to read and reflect on. It really is a bible on the sales process and a great resource to use over and over again.Three key takeaways from the book:1. How important humour is in the sales process. Using humor at the right time and in the right situations is critical for developing relationships and rapport with your customers2.
