Very comprehensive book on all aspects of stained glass since the beginning. Great photos. Pleasant read. I got mine for a good price. Keep picking it up and leafing through a chapter at a time.

Raguin's overview of stained glass is the best available art historical overview of the medium, though it's not exactly exhaustive -- it covers the development of stained glass from early medieval time through the present day (though the examples of modern stained glass are comparatively weak), focusing on the evolving function of stained glass in its architectural context (as adornment, a didactic tool, an artistic medium). This is a reference book. You will not find patterns or techniques in it; and it does not examine any particular set of windows in depth; but it does frame the development of style and technology in an understandable narrative, and it has plenty of excellent photographs. Well worth the money.

This is a gorgeous, valuable, and readable book that serves both as a well-annotated and explained reference work, but also as an entertaining general interest book. However, there is unfortunately one major, frustrating, and very disappointing flaw: the detail of nearly half the maps reproduced in this volume is so poor that it can scarcely be seen with the naked eye; a magnifying glass is needed. As the pages of this work have overly wide top, bottom, and side margins, there's simply no excuse for not having enlarged the maps so that their detail might be savored. It's astounding that this defect wasn't noted and corrected prior to printing.

It's something of a surprise nobody took on this topic before. It's subject is the decades (largely the 1920s through the 1960s) of maps featuring pictures and drawings in addition to the usual map figures. With nearly 160 color examples (cities, states, war theaters, railway routes, air transport , power company coverage, expositions and fairs, state and national parks, and many others), the author (a University of Maine geographer) provides background on the key artists and publishers of these often whimsical maps. More of these maps were produced in the U.S. than anywhere else. And now they are largely forgotten save for some tourist area maps still produced today. Geography CAN be fun! Recommended.

Great text - but maps are too small for a map book. Would have been better to have used the entire whitespace on the pages and/or have magnified sections.

A excellent and much-needed resource for those collecting or selling in this increasingly popular genre. High quality illustrations. He missed a couple of 2nd tier artists, but that is a small complaint given all those he noted and the numerous illustrations he chose to include.

Truly magnificent in every way, this book will be the definitive work on the subject until the planet melts. I am dismayed by the comments about the size of the maps since this is not an atlas but a deeply researched examination of the significance of this delightful form of cartography. Many of these beauties are wall maps and to reproduce them at 1:1 would require megabooks about 5 feet tall which would make bringing them home from the bookstore difficult. In the real world this study of the creme de la creme of the genre is a meticulously chosen selection arrived at after obvious exhaustive study. Also Hornsby gives us the signposts of who and why and where these things can be seen close up (i.e. Rumsey or the Library of Congress) but to see them categorized and organized under themes is amazing. As books on the history of mapping and the reproduction of maps in same this one is at the top of the cartographic mountain.

Have to agree with A. Lueder's review, the reproductions are woefully small. A book of this nature should have also had some foldout pages as well. But I will give the book five stars because it is absolutely gorgeous. Well-written, and despite the undersized reproductions, still a joy to peruse. Kudos to the author!

If you want to understand 19th century English poetry, you need to read a lot--if not all--of Wordsworth.Alas, the frisson that his early readers experienced will probably not be felt by a modern reader. He's a poet who hasn't worn well, at least not in bulk, though individual poems like TINTERN ABBEY still have the capacity to thrill and inspire.Only an academic would take the whole production seriously, and the modern common reader can probably get by with an anthology of the Best of Wordsworth.This book is also a very unwieldy paperback: too many pages for comfort. There should have been two volumes.

The reason we still go to Keats, and Yeats, and Tennyson, and Wordsworth is the power of the words and the way it opens the mind to see life in spectrums of beauty and melancholy.

Wordsworth is arguably the greatest English poet of all time, this book contains just about EVERYTHING, and it is a fantastic bargain.

I wanted a cheap copy to travel (I travel with my work a great deal) with me all the time, although i have a nice bound edition i leave at home. This serves my needs very well. I dont really agree with the reviewer who stated that it will fall apart quickly, although i take his point. I think (I hope!) that if treated with care, this edition will last me very well. Has everything any lover of Wordsworth could want at a very cheap price.

A strong collection of hundreds of Worthworth's poems, including the entirety of his major work, The Prelude-- the introduction to the poems is perhaps too brief, but has to accommodate a book over 1100 pages.

Both of these books were a wonderful read. Hard times back in those days. Work was hard but so worthy for everyone.

Any more info, in my opinion, would be spoilers.Both books were well written and held my interest throughout each one.In book 1 written by Indiana Wake, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Ada adjust from a very strict religious community to a different relaxed one and becoming a bride to Colt, a man she didn’t know. Colt also had to adjust being married to a mail order bride. I enjoyed seeing what they went through to arrive to their HEA.In book 2, by Emma Ashwood, an author, who is new to me, we have Ann and Russell’s story. Ann’s little brother is another important, obviously lesser, part of Ann and Russell’s story. I enjoyed what led Ann to became a mail order bride and being Russell’s choice to be his M O B and accepting Ann’s brother. It was an interesting and enjoyable story.I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books and feel they are well worth reading. I enjoyed having these to books all in one and highly recommend it!

I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review. I enjoyed both the books in this set about mail order brides going west after living all their lives in the northeast. If the cross country train and stagecoach trips weren't hard enough, they were marrying men they only knew through letters. Both authors did excellent jobs of writing convincing and interesting books. They are worth reading if you like clean romance stories.

The books showed women who were facing desperate times who took a leap of faith that going to a new place would have to be better than the life they were living. They used their strengths to make a better life for them and their new husbands.

I'm always enjoyed the many colourful stories of Indiana Wake, the second author was unknown to me before this. As always I enjoyed the story of the young woman of Indiana's , the banished woman was at a lost as that was to become of her.

Simple plots of life changes with little control for the young woman of the past. Both become mail order brides to change their situation of destitution.

I thought this would just be about the physical, technical aspects of being a larger-bodied yogi – but Ms. Stanley has opened my mind up to the entire life-expanding scope of Yoga. And she shows practical application of that path through letting us in on the touching, sometimes messy and difficult lessons of her own life. I found this little book so well written! Never too self-deprecating, confessional, preachy, sanctimonious, precious. I’m so thankful she has made the choices in her life to bring us the gift of this book.Regarding the “profanity” objection so many reviews raise. I’m an older woman who doesn’t personally use profanity and I’m not crazy about hearing it from others. From reviews I expected there to be tons of objectionable language. In actuality, there’s not much - typically used to make a point, or be funny. And really, this is just how Ms. Stanley expresses herself. So what? Big deal. Though we may not want to accept it, girls, grown women, yogis, spiritually evolved folks might use profanity. This is just life. And life is what Ms. Stanley writes about.Finally, this is a really good looking book! The photos are bold and clear. The cover and pages are sturdy.

This is a great book for beginner yogis anxious about starting out and for teachers wanting to be more inclusive in their instruction. Jessamyn Stanley contributes to the development of modern yoga by discussing issues related to size, race, class, and other identities -- conversations that are missing at mainstream studios -- in a light and accessible way. She encourages everyone to be themselves on the mat and stick to yoga no matter what telling us that the miracle of serenity will happen if we commit. Highly recommended!

Great book! I love the color photographs of the yoga poses and the explanation of the different paths of yoga. It's not just the poses but deeper than that. The life lessons are honest and relatable. Definite must read!

This book is life changing. I loved it so much, I purchased the Kindle version AND the paperback for myself, and sent another paperback to a friend. I also subscribed to CodyApp so I could use Jessamyn's workout videos. I have been doing her 'hip openers' series each day and already feel a big difference. The book is really uplifting because she talks about her personal journey through body image issues and how she came out on the other side (but how it's still an ongoing journey). She inspired me to take up yoga even though I have a lot of weight to lose. I already feel so much better and am making other positive changes in my life as a result. Thank you Jessamyn.

I loved this book and I love Jessamyn Stanley. Her books is a breath of authentic fresh air in a yoga culture saturated with inaccessible bodies, $150 yoga pants, and endless cringeworthy cultural appropriation. If you want to learn how to decolonize your yoga practice and begin accepting that physical asana - without ego - is only a tiny part of the yoga practice, I recommend making a date with this book immediately.

If you’re less-than-open-minded, this may not be your book. Then again, it may open up your empathy for people not like yourself. While I share some similarities with Jessamyn, we are also quite different. I have off and on been drawn to yoga, but for more than the body-sculpting benefits it seems to be about most of the time. Every time I entered a class - with the exception of one teacher’s - I’ve been made to feel, through a combination of other’s and my own stuff, that this big body doesn’t belong there. Jessamyn opens up the possibilities for me and reminds me with wit and story how yoga may be approached many ways and with all or some of the limbs. (8 of them.) While I was reading this book, my daughter absconded my long neglected yoga mat. You’d think I’d be at least a little annoyed but I found myself happy she found yoga on her own while I was driving back to it. I just got a new mat for a fresh start. I look forward to returning to some of the sequences Jessamyn presents - and to reading the text that accompanies them.

"Every Body Yoga" is a wonderful book: warm, funny, informative and uncompromising. I've read it through twice, now (now that I don't have to worry about following the plot), and have gotten more from it each time.As a fat, 63-year-old white broad who lives mostly in her head and has a million excuses, I thought my old ACL injury and mildly arthritic knees made me a perfect candidate to SKIP yoga. (Although, between you and me, I was really more concerned with not humiliating myself in front of a class of skinny young pipecleaners.) The fact that I read the book twice without skipping the exercises, is huge.Read the book. Put down your excuses. Prepare for hard work that is more than what you expected. Welcome the crap that comes up.It's all normal, and it's all good. And it comes to old, young, fat, skinny, white, black and beige alike.F*'kin A it does. :)

Jessamyn Stanley is truly awesome. By being honest and down-to-earth she puts readers at ease and boosts their confidence enough to at least *try*. She is also very knowledgeable, yet inspires me to do my own research as well. I have taken many yoga classes but never felt I confident to practice at home. Jessamyn doesn't sugar coat the potential difficulties, yet makes home practice seem doable. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants to start practicing yoga or wants to expand their practice. Caveat: If you are offended by reading the occasional f-bomb you should probably look for a different yoga intro book.

This book is the most boring text I've read in my years to taking courses. Granted, it is a text book, so I'm not expecting epic adventure. But still, it should grab the readers' attention. After reading this book I feel like I've absorbed absolutely nothing.But, if it's required for your course, what choice do you really have right? Just be warned, you will most likely need to find alternate sources of information to actually absord. This book is awful.

Not a well written textbook. Had to buy it for a class. Disappointed in the organization and content. It has small print and large paragraphs, which make it hard to read and difficult to break out concepts. Many of the concepts written about were not in the index.

Content was ok and adequate, but a very dry read. Then again aren't a lot of text books? The price what kills it for me. It's currently priced at around $140 I got it for $123. Even at that price it still isn't even close to worth it. The book store at my college wanted over $200. That's an even bigger joke. We all know text books are a rip off by now though. Overall, I can tolerate it, but the price is absurd.

Good condition

It would be well worth purchasing this book for autodidacts and if purchased for school it should be kept as it makes a great reference book. That being said Amazon does buy books like these back at up to 80%.
