I don't know if I can even write a review of Benjamin Grant's Overview: A New Perspective of Earth. Seriously, you just have to see these pictures. Grant has compiled pictures from his popular Daily Overview web site (Instagram feed, Facebook page, etc.). Go there, check it out. Be sure you don't have an urgent appointment, or you'll get caught up in the pictures and miss it.That's how this book is. Every page is jaw-dropping. First, disorienting, because the scale and beauty are so unbelievable. Then inspiring, a reminder of how much beauty is in the world that we never see. That is, unless you're an astronaut. Grant was inspired by the overview effect reported by astronauts, whose perspective on our planet is transformed by seeing it from above.Spend some time with Overview. Your perspective will be transformed, too.Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

This is a gorgeous, information-packed book, full of high resolution satellite images that would make astounding wall art. But this is not your average coffee-table book...it's an incredible and unique view of the world. Despite my decades of work in the environmental sciences, this book provided new insights, showing man's ecological, architectural, and terra-forming impacts -- for better and worse -- in ways that I had never seen before. It drove home to me what amazing things humans are capable of, how resilient and resourceful we are, and also how destructive we can be, in ways that even the best environmental writing can't always communicate. The balance between text and photos is perfect: enough to clearly explain each photo, but not so much as to get in the way of the amazing images. The text does not impose a particular point of view on the reader, but you will certainly have opinions as you fly through it. The geographic coordinates for each photo are a wonderful inclusion, too: you can easily use Google Earth to provide even greater context for the photos that intrigue you the most. For those who think or worry or are hopeful about the future of humanity on Planet Earth, this book has tremendous immediacy.

I am blown away by the beauty of this book! I bought it as a present for my husband who loves space, but now we both can't put it down! It is museum quality art on our coffee table and it is now our favorite book in our home!

There is a parallel universe to ours in which this book was NEVER published. In that universe, the Earth is destroyed in 2017. Only a small group of human beings manage to escape the destruction in a spaceship. On board the ship, the human cyborg clones of Neil deGrasse Tyson and Steve Jobs have a son named Benjamin Grant. Benjamin grows up knowing nothing about Earth other than the few remaining historical photographs taken from space just before its destruction. His curiosity drives him to gather the photographs and assemble them into a masterfully created book. All the future human cyborgs gather around and have the collective insight that if human beings in the past had this book it would have completely shifted their relationship to Earth and saved the existence of the planet. So they used their extremely advanced technology to send the book back across universes and to the year 2016 to save planet Earth. THIS IS THAT BOOK!

I started following Overview on Instagram and the day Benjamin Grant announced that he had compiled all of all these fabulous photos into a book that could now be pre-ordered, I was so excited that I did just that! The "Overview Effect" had me hooked! The pictures that he has captured of our earth that portray the patterns and colors of what we humans have designed, built, planted, harvested, all from a perspective that I have never experienced before, simply captivated me! I love that I now have all these gorgeous, intriguing pictures in a beautiful book!

Named for the overview effect, the cognitive shift astronauts report when viewing Earth from space, this book is filled with dazzling eye-candy that will change your perspective on the world we live in. Industrial landscapes, tropical rainforests, urban infrastructure, eroded mountain ranges, and pristine coastlines pop off the page and spark a sense of wonder at the beauty and diversity of our pale blue dot.

This book is amazing! I love the chapters the images were categorized in - it really gives you perspective on where we are and the impact we have on this planet. From something as simple as palm oil or aluminum foil that we may buy readily at the local grocery store - it may seem like something small but the production is massive and the earth pays the toll. It made me realize how much we take for granted. And how much there is to discover, too - I really enjoyed the where we are not chapter that showed natural areas that haven't been impacted by humanity. And of course the where we live, play and design chapters are exciting and fun to look at and study - all the intricate details of a city and the artistic layouts of different communities around the world. I've seen other satellite imagery books but this one definitely hit the mark for me. Three Cheers for Overview!

I pre-ordered this book and received it on release day. My biggest concern was that it might feel 'cheap' or not have really high resolution, clear photos.I need not have been concerned, from cover to cover, this book is fascinating and beautiful, even when photos feature the less beautiful acts of humanity (mining, for example).Everyone in our house from 9years old to, well, adulthood, loves to look through it.It sits in good company on the coffee table.

I gave this book to 4 different people as Christmas gifts... every one of them loved it and ended up ordering more to give away as gifts too.Its a great coffee table book... the pictures are stunning... we all found ourselves looking up the titles and names of the photos and then looking up more information on wikipedia.

If you're considering taking flying lessons, then this is a must read. The description didn't explain very well, but this IS the color version of the manual. It is much easier to understand if the illustrations are in color.

I already have the ebook version of this but, although in general I prefer to read on an electronic device rather than paper these days, the exception is books that have a lot of diagrams, which don't ever seem to render quite correctly. So I ordered the paper version, too.

This is the one book every aviator either has or will have, someday... want to pass you exams? forget everything else, because its all in here (or the FAR/AIM) … Plus, its a good read with plenty of pictures and diagrams

I got back into flying after a 30 year absence and wanted some books/instruction that would fully cover everything from A to Z. This does that.

Would have given 5 stars but it arrived slightly damaged, one corner was a bit crushed and cover had a small tear. Not worth the hassle of returning it.

Very good improvement of the previous book.

A well written text on quickly getting started with DMR.A must have for this inexpensive digital mode. You will be pleased.

Nice little book on programming MD-380, as I have worked with the radio I learned that you do not need to create a scan group for every individual contact as mentioned in the book. Pictures are a little difficult to read, can find same information on multiple websites for free.I commend Brian for writing this manual, guessing it was one of the first sources for new MD-380 users.

This book contains something the all of the other published information lacks - an example of what an actual codeplug looks like. Nice, basic information regarding DMR.

Has many screen shots which are practically unreadable. Too small and thus too hard to read. Book might be OK if only the screen shots were full size and more contrasty. NOT recommended. Hopefully a better instruction can be downloaded from the internet.Disappointed.

Very straight forward and written in plain language. The format is easy to follow with not filler material. A great reference source.

Simply written, easy to follow, and very brief. No needless jargon or incomprehensible tech. Hoping the author writes a book on the Nano Spot.

Way overpriced, save your money for something most consistent.

Nothing one Google search would not reveal. WASTE OF TIME!

This book does exactly what is proclaimed by its title, it’s a pretty comprehensive NexStar user’s guide. If that’s the reason you want to make the purchase, you’ll be ok. But keep that in mind.The fact is, The author does his best to provide proper guidance. One can almost feel the his effort. And, that is my primary objection.....he tries to do too much.Indeed, there are many, many Celestron scope/mount combos that bare the label, “NexStar”. And the author makes a valid attempt to provide instructions for each and every one. In doing so, it is only natural that the info would be spread thin, with many lists concerning the proper way to use the mount to achieve a desired result.Because of the large volume of equipment that bare the NexStar name, I had to comb page after page to follow the instructions concerning my particular NexStar scope/mount combo. As far as I could discern, the instructions were correct and informative. But after a while, it becomes a laborious chore to follow along.The author does his best, to keep the reader interested. He tries to convey his enthusiasm for the product line. And that is what a reader would expect. However, there are only so many step by step processes one can endure.I believe this is a good referance book. One you keep on the shelf, only opened when needed. It’s use is similar that of your car manual. So, don’t buy this book expecting to enjoy the read...that’s unlikely to happen.If u buy it, be prepared to put it on the shelf, only to be opened in specific incidents.

My original copy is 10 years old and well used. The digital copy should weather better. For me, this is must read stuff for Celestron NexStars. I started with the NexStar 8i and now have the 9.25" CPC. I knew nothing and no one. Star parties are great but essentially everyone tends to there own equipment and you must learn to do the same. Well intentioned "misinformation" will cost money, time and grief. For me, telescopes, equipment and associated toys are expensive. This book helped me master my equipment and greatly complimented the manufactures manual. It is still my main reference bible and really, not a bad read. Also, there is a web site which updates this material and I recommend both for the starter.

Greetings,Very well written, but like everything that is computer operated by software or firmware, its guide books quickly become out dated.I just purchased a Celestron 6" refractor with an Advance VX GOTO mount. Save for a few tips and some operational myths dispelled, I was always reading about someone else's instrument. The Nexstar resource pages the author still operates online is perhaps more relevant and up-to-date.I'd pass on the book though unless you have purchased a used GOTO from 2000 - 2005.

This is a complete handbook for your Celestron telescope , it covers all you need to know plus additional good to know info ,however to my knowledge it would be great if they would update it ,otherwise ,great to have book

If you have a Celestron Nexstar series scope then this book is one of the best buys you can get yourself. Besides that, it's a nice little refresher on the generals of astronomy and ways to make the hobby more rewarding and enjoyable for yourself and others. It was better than I expected and at the time I bought it I had two Nexstars that I was toying around with, and this book helped me make the best use of both of them! Also a nice little Celestron history lesson!

This is a real review, I paid full price for this itemeven if you're not a complete noob to astronomy, this book is absolutely fantastic. lots of very useful information, hints, and lots of information you would not know unless you have many years of experience working with nexstar equipment. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone before spending any money on a telescope or accessories, it'll save you a lot of money by keeping you from buying stuff you don't really need

This book is a extended manual for Nexstar celestron telescopes, It does not include my model that is a 6i but the information is useful. It has a lot of tips to buy, install, use a take care about the telescope. I recommended this book specially for the beginner

I was looking for something that was chock full of "secret tips" on how to use my NexStar telescope, but found that there were few tips available. Much of the information was general information about astronomical topics that an experienced amateur astronomer might already know. It did, however, contain some information specific to the NexStar scopes. And, I did learn some general things that I had not known before. So, if you are a NexStar owner, you spent a good deal of money on your telescope and this is an excellent first accessory, especially if you are a beginner in stargazing.So, why do I give such a lukewarm review to a book that I awarded five stars?? Well, if you are a NexStar owner, you should know about the web site that author Swanson runs, The NexStar Resource Site, [...]. If you are a NexStar owner and this is the first that you have heard of this site, then you owe it to yourself to check it out!! It has a wealth of current information that you will want to refer to from time to time. So, buy Mr. Swanson's book, if for no other reason than to support his site. I expected real, substantial information about 2nd passport acquisition, offshore banking laws, overseas investment, etc. - in other words, the stuff that's in the title of the book.Rather than write chapters that focused on these topics, he wrote a self-helpy book that told you that yes, you too can travel the world and find ways to reduce your taxes.The book always alluded and tantalized you with information, but it got stuck on this paternal, parental advice-giving, and never actually gave you the meat. Compare that with books like Millionaire Expat: How To Build Wealth Living Overseas, which is overflowing with citations, data, and sources. Yes, the topic is different, but you can see how different the writing style is ... and, ultimately, the purpose of the book.The entire purpose of the book - which won't surprise you if you've seen Henderson's other work - was to sell his consulting services, which he finally did at the very end.I spent hours reading the entire book, waiting for the punchline, hoping for some real information which I really wanted, but only got a teasey sales pitch.

A great mix of Andrew's travels and business encounters around the world with on the ground insights on being a modern day "nomad capitalist". I was pleasantly surprized with more realistic advice and down to earth explainations of the buzz words offshore and second passports. He keeps it real and also makes for a fun read along the way in what could be a pretty dry topic. Read it if you want to open your mind outside of your home country and think in the modern day global mindset.

I think most of the negative reviews here are looking for one thing: a universal DIY step-by-step process on how to "Go where you're treated best." Well, you won't find it here, simply because...that does not exist! What's best for one person isn't necessarily the best thing for EVERYONE in the world. And so it would be quite impossible to simply publish a course, or fill this book with detailed processes - just in case everyone who reads it decides that doing all that is his ONLY best option... And that would be far from the truth. Andrew Henderson revealed a lot about his personal strategy without getting too technical, because choosing his EXACT path isn't going to be right for everyone. This book is so full of information, but only for those who are willing to expand their perspective. View the ideas and tips with critical thinking, and decide whether this path is for you or not, so you can take the necessary steps to get there in a manner that suits YOU. I've always been fascinated by offshore companies, coming from a bureaucratic, business-unfriendly country (see? I'm not a US citizen, and even I found this book amazing. It's really all about perspective). This book has inspired me beyond the entrepreneurial aspect; the whole philosophy of going where you're treated best should be embraced in all aspects of your LIFE. And if you just let that sink in for a moment, it will change how you think and feel and view the world and its opportunities. Read this book, then go be an entrepreneur about it: Make the strategies your own, figure even more things out along the way, and when you can - get a mentor to get where you're going much faster.

This book was very easy to read. There are a number of very concrete suggestions about what one might do to get started that I am very excited about myself. It is not a densely packed cook book on how to live a nomad capitalist lifestyle for every possible fact scenario but the anecdotes surrounding the concrete advice are paradigm changing; its the change in thinking that reading the author's personal and consulting experiences that are the primary value add in my opinion.The book does end in a solicitation of the author's services but I never felt that the book's substantive content was lacking enough to call the book a sales pitch. I am satisfied with what I got from it whether or not I seek the author's services in the future.

I love the work Andrew has done over the last decade to become an expert in his field. Going where you're treated best is very important. Saving on taxes can be one strong motivator. There are others :-) .My first goal this week was to finish reading this book. Having completed that goal, I now continue on to the next goal for the week: Implementing as much of what I read as I can as reasonably quickly as I can.I would love to become one of Andrew's ideal clients and fully intend to do so. Meanwhile I have some building to do.Thank you Andrew!

This book is a gem. Packed full of useful information from many popular landscape oil painters, it's got all kinds of exciting tips to help you improve your paintings. I'd place this at the top in importance compared to most other books on this subject.

Today's masters all seem to have the same style, at least according to this book! It was fine - but I would have liked to see more styles presented.

Great lessons, but too many did not leave lesson plans as promised

I do so appreciate the advice of these masters. The concept of the book was wonderful to me as a beginner. I've just finished reading it for a second time, it's going to make a great reference.
